Ready for instant use.  Deploys O/S within seconds. Slides effortlessly atop early winter black ice. Outbound IR technician walks, or crawls through snow covered ice.  

Rescuer remains one sled-length away from the victim and extends the empty sled as a reaching device for the victim’s self-rescue attempt. With forearms through orange sling, patient is gently hauled aboard by shore-based line tenders.  In-bound sled shields torso of both patient and rescuer.
